Not Today: Expressions of Depression (as a Caregiver)

As the Alarm blares and I stare

Praise Be! I'm alive and well...kind of

Close My Eyes because I hit the snooze button... again

Not Today

My eyes are still puffy, brain still runnin'

thinking of what could have been

Heart broken, time, they say, it will mend

Not Today though

Put a smile on my face that doesn't quite reach my eyes

Play Tag, Catch and Peek A Boo! memorized

Baby Shark and Let It Go-Now, why can't I?

Not Today though I

I listen to the drama, he said, she said

Teacher didn't grade it, Yes, mom, the directions I read

Homework done, chores complete, can I go now?

Not Today though I now

See, Honey, that's all it needed, it's fixed-(Am I?)

Oh dinner was delicious, not that I'm surprised

Put the kids to bed, lay next to me

It's only you I want to see

Not Today though I now see

It'll be someday

As I lie awake, praying to God my soul he'll take

I love them though, I love me too

But today I feel like I am through

Keep holding on, One more step

One more laugh, One more breath

Maybe tomorrow will be the day

One more chance

It'll be Some Day

Just Not Today
